The Secretary of State of Canada was ex officio the Registrar General of Canada until September 30, 1966. Statute 14-15 Elizabeth II, c. 25, assented to June 16, 1966 and proclaimed in force October 1, 1966, created the separate ministerial office of Registrar General of Canada.
