Senate Committee Chair
In the simulation, you will:
- summarize the committee report and submit it to the Senate
- report a bill back to the Senate that your committee has studied (with or without amendments)
A committee is a group of Senators who have been assigned to examine a bill. They study it in depth, hear from witnesses and use their expertise to refine the bill. They also write a report, which may suggest amendments (changes).
As the committee chair, you direct and oversee all of the work done by the committee and ensure that members stay on track. Since a committee is a smaller group, discussions can proceed more quickly than they would in the Senate Chamber.
It is your responsibility to report back to the Senate on the committee's work.
